Seattle-based alto saxophonist and composer Jacob Zimmerman is an extremely versatile and integral part of the local creative-music community. Jacob studied music at the internationally renowned Garfield High School, the New England Conservatory of Music in Boston, and Mills College in Oakland. His teachers have included Roscoe Mitchell, Jerry Bergonzi, Joe Morris, Anthony Coleman, James Fei and Allan Chase.
In addition to leading his own groups (Lawson and Anteater), he is also a member of the Arts & Sciences Quartet, and was recently commissioned by the pop-band Kapowski to write a string arrangement for their latest album “Boy Detective.” Formerly Jacob co-produced a successful ongoing concert series called The Actual Jazz Series at the Actual Café in Oakland. As a life-long lover of the Great American Songbook, Jacob also gives occasional performances of standard songs.
